Side Notes

05/12/12

SIDE DETAILS:
In the morning we get to wake up to singing and announcements from a loud speaker that the whole town can hear which are apparently played from the temple.

They drive on the left side of the road in Thailand.

My hair is crazy curly here and I’m pretty sure I will be consistently sweaty for the next three and a half months.

We walk by groups of monks in their orange robes all the time.

TRANSPORTATION
I Don't want to freak Mom and Dad out, but most of our traveling occurs in the back of an old truck. 10 to 18 of us will pile into the bed of the truck that we barrow from our land lady. The driving is kinda funny too... The roads all have one going each direction. If you want to pass someone going slow in your lane, you switch into the other lane to go past them. A lot of driving occurs in the middle of the road. People honk a lot here too... But it's more of a friendly gesture... We don't fully understand the etiquette for it yet.

Here's to show you how lovely my hair looks after one of these little trips :)

SIDE NOTE:
Went to Sunrise café for Courtney’s birthday and treated her to an apple frosty. The drinks at Sunrise café are so good. They have frosties which are ice and fruit blended and they have mango, apple, pineapple and lichee frosties. They also have chocolate ice cream shakes which are really good too.

SIDE NOTE:
At some point I realized how much I haven’t had a problem with culture shock here. I realized that if it was a few years ago and I was driving through some of these villages we go to and eating at some of the places we do, I might have a harder time with it. I’m really comfortable with everything though.
